- This is the number of learners who participated in community learning at any point during the full academic year (August to July), expressed as a rate per 100,000 population aged 16 to 64. Community learning funds a wide range of non-formal courses, from personal development through to older people’s learning, IT courses, employability skills, family learning and activities to promote civic engagement and community development. Courses may be offered by local authorities, colleges, and voluntary and community groups, and include activity targeted at deprived areas and disadvantaged groups.
Learners will be allocated to an area based on the home postcode of the learner. Figures exclude learners where the location is outside of England or unknown. Figures exclude privately funded training.
Periods affected by varying COVID-19 restrictions, which will have impacted on apprenticeship and traineeship learning. Therefore, extra care should be taken in comparing and interpreting data. The data shown is for the latest full academic year, the Department for Education also publishes interim figures.
Rates per 100,000 population have been calculated using the data population estimates - small area based by single year of age - England and Wales produced by the Office of National Statistics.
Values based on fewer than 5 people have been suppressed.
