Apprenticeship achievements rate per 100,000 population at Intermediate level aged under 19 (20026) Metric type
- Help text
- This is the number of learners who achieved an apprenticeship at any point during the full academic year (August to July) aged under 19, expressed as a rate per 100,000 population aged 16 to 18. Apprenticeships are paid jobs that incorporate on-the-job and off-the-job training leading to nationally recognised qualifications. As an employee, apprentices earn as they learn and gain practical skills in the workplace.
An Intermediate Apprenticeship is equivalent to five good GCSE passes. The apprentice works towards work-based learning qualifications such as an NVQ Level 2, Key Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification such as a BTEC. These provide the skills required for the apprenticeships chosen career and allow entry to an Advanced Apprenticeship.
Learners achieving more than one course will appear only once in the total. Location is based upon the home postcode of the learner. Figures exclude learners where the location is outside of England or unknown. Figures exclude privately funded training.
Periods affected by varying COVID-19 restrictions, which will have impacted on apprenticeship and traineeship learning. Therefore, extra care should be taken in comparing and interpreting data. The data shown is for the latest full academic year, the Department for Education also publishes interim figures.
Rates per 100,000 population have been calculated using the data population estimates - small area based by single year of age - England and Wales produced by the Office of National Statistics.
Values based on fewer than 5 people have been suppressed. Age is calculated based on the age at start of the programme.
