Percentage vaccination coverage for eligible children - BCG (3 months) (19722) Metric type
- Help text
- This is the completed immunisations rate at three months of eligible children for whom the local authority is responsible who reached three months of age in this quarter, would have been scheduled to receive a BCG vaccination at 28 days. BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine) protects against tuberculosis (TB). TB is a serious infection that affects the lungs and sometimes other parts of the body, such as the bones, joints and kidneys. It can also cause meningitis.
Children born in areas where the TB incidence is greater than or equal to 40 per 100,000 or who are born to parents or grandparents from TB endemic areas are eligible for a BCG vaccination.
In England, local teams and Child Health Record Departments provided data for upper tier local authorities (LAs) and the associated general practices (GP). All English data were collected through NHS Digital’s Strategic Data Collection Service. There are some expections where for some local authorities GP data only is included (excludes unregistered population), which can lead to under-estimates of coverage. GP level data was censored when individual values were less than 5.
City of London is included in Hackney data.
