Pupils per qualified teacher: All state-funded schools (14777) Metric type
- Help text
- The number of full-time equivalent (FTE) pupils per FTE qualified teachers in state-funded schools.
These results are inclusive of all state-funded schools; state-funded nursery, primary, secondary schools including academies, converter academies and sponsor led academies, free schools, technical colleges, studio schools, special schools and pupil referral units. Any centrally employed teachers working in state-funded schools are also included in these figures. Middle schools are classed as deemed, i.e. as either primary or secondary. All through schools are deemed secondary.
Qualified teachers are defined as those with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This includes classroom and school leadership group teachers (Head teachers, Deputy and Assistant Head teachers)
The number of FTE qualified teachers is calculated by converting part-time staff’s hours into a full-time staff equivalent. For example, if a standard full-time working week was 37 hours and a part-time qualified teacher works 18.5 hours, their FTE would be 0.5
Only pupils who did not attend both morning and afternoon sessions are regarded as part-time. All part-time pupils are given an FTE of 0.5.
Full time headcount + part time FTE = total FTE qualified teachers/pupils.
