Full-time equivalent (FTE) workforce: Centrally employed schools workforce (14769) Metric type
- Help text
- Total number of people centrally employed presented as the number of full-time equivalent positions (FTE). This includes teachers, teaching assistants, support staff, technicians and auxiliary staff.
Centrally employed staff are those employed by the local authority and include the following types of employee: peripatetic teachers; home tutors; and teachers who are employed by education authorities to provide education in institutions other than schools (e.g. hospitals, home tuition, assessment centres and pupil referral units).
FTE results are calculated by converting part-time staff’s hours into a full-time staff equivalent. For example, if a standard full-time working week was 37 hours and a part-time member of staff works 18.5 hours, their FTE would be 0.5.
Full time headcount + part time FTE = total FTE Staff. This provides a better indication of total labour input than a simple headcount.
