- Total number of people employed by special academies/pupil referral units presented as the number of full-time equivalent positions (FTE). This includes teachers, teaching assistants, support staff, technicians and auxiliary staff.
FTE results are calculated by converting part-time staff’s hours into a full-time staff equivalent. For example, if a standard full-time working week was 37 hours and a part-time member of staff works 18.5 hours, their FTE would be 0.5.
Full time headcount + part time FTE = total FTE Staff. This provides a better indication of total labour input than a simple headcount.
