Estimated number of mandatory licensable Houses in Multiple Occupation within the area (8667) Metric type
- Help text
- This is an estimate of the total number of mandatory licensable Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) that have received a licence during the reporting year, within the local authority area.
A house in multiple occupation is defined as an entire house, flat or converted building which is let to three or more persons who form two or more households, who share facilities such as a kitchen, bathroom and toilet [Sections 254-260 of the Housing Act 2004].
Licensing of houses in multiple occupation aims at improving the physical condition and management of various types of properties in the private rented sector. Mandatory licensing seeks to ensure that ‘high risk’ houses in multiple occupation are in a good condition and well managed.
