- This is the percentage of municipal waste which is sent to landfill.
The numerator is municipal waste sent to landfill - this includes residual waste sent directly to landfill and that which was collected for other management routes (e.g. recycling, composting, reuse, Mechanical Biological Treatment) but subsequently sent to landfill.
The denominator is all waste in the possession or under the control of a waste disposal authority or a waste collection authority, or agents acting on their behalf.
This was previously reported as NI 193. Data for this metric is only available for dedicated waste disposal authorities or authorities that are responsible for waste disposal such as county councils and unitary authorities.
