- This is the percentage of pupils in state funded secondary schools whose first language is other than English, achieving 5 or more A* to C GCSEs (incl. English & mathematics). This is based on pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 in the academic year reported, in all state funded secondary schools, which includes academies and city technology colleges. Pupils include those whose language is "not known, but believed to be other than English".

Two major reforms have been implemented which affect the calculation of Key Stage 4 (KS4) performance measures data: 1. Professor Alison Wolf's Review of Vocational Education recommendations which: restrict the qualifications counted; prevent any qualification from counting as larger than one GCSE; and cap the number of non-GCSEs included in performance measures at two per pupil. 2. An early entry policy to only count a pupil's first attempt at a qualification. Comparisons between 2013/14 and earlier years should not be made before reading sections 2 and 3 of the statistical first release:
