Persistent absentees as a percentage of all pupils in primary schools (15% or more sessions missed) (2164) Metric type
- Help text
- A persistent absentee is defined as having 46 or more sessions of absence (authorised and unauthorised) during the year, around 15 per cent overall absence rate. This measure relates to the school year, and is expressed as a percentage of all pupil enrolments at maintained secondary schools.
The Department for Education has recently reduced the threshold at which a pupil is classified as a persistent absentee. For the school year, this is now defined in terms of those with around 15 per cent overall absence (missing 46 or more sessions), down from around 20 per cent overall absence (64 or more sessions).
