Help text
The percentage of people aged 16 to 17 reporting an Musculoskeletal (MSK) condition, either long term back pain or long term joint pain. The numerator is the weighted count of those who answered "Arthritis or ongoing problem with back or joints", Prior to 2017/18, the numerator was the weighted count of those who answered "Arthritis or long-term joint problem" or "Long-term back problem" and the denominator is the weighted count of survey participants who gave a valid response to GP Patient Survey Q35("Which, if any, of the following long-term conditions do you have?"); prior to 2017/18, the denominator was the weighted count of those who gave a valid response to GP Patient Survey Q31 ("Which, if any, of the following medical conditions do you have?). This indicator is a self-reported prevalence from the GP Patient Survey it is not a diagnosed prevalence rate. There is no definition in the survey to what "long term" means so this is interpreted by the participant. Numerators and denominators are weighted so they are standardised to the local authorities population. Where local authority data is shown we have collated data for all those patients registered at GP practices within a given local authority. This may mean in a limited number of cases a patient may live outside a local authority but still be counted as within the local authority as the GP practice they attend is registered as within the given local authority. The reverse is also true that a patient may live within a local authority but attend a GP practice outside the local authority and may be missed from the count. Some demographic groups within the GP Patient Survey have lower response rates, and there are some variations in regional response rates. The data is weighted to account for non-response by gender, age and practice.
