Did you know we have a dedicated powers and duties tool?
Available to LG Inform Plus subscribers, it provides information on what current legislation gives English and Welsh councils the power to do and what it requires them to do in law. Advanced searching and filtering options make it easy to find specific powers and duties based on legislation, business function and keyword, and results are easily exported in commonly used formats.

Number of new dwellings completed - local authority (55) Metric type
- Help text
- This is the count of all new local authority owned dwellings completed in the area and is based on building control activity. A new dwelling is counted as complete when they become ready for occupation. For local authority dwellings this will normally be when the keys are handed over to the clerk of works. For other dwellings this will be when a notice of completion or occupation is given, whichever is earlier.
Indicators of new supply statistics (formerly known as ‘house building’) data are based of quarterly returns by building control inspectors at local authorities and the National House-Building Council (NHBC). These are from completed P2 and AIR (Approved Inspectors Return) forms.
Totals are subject to further revision for late returns. Data for earlier years are less reliable and definitions may not be consistent throughout the series.
Totals may not equal the sum of component parts due to rounding to the nearest 10.
