Help text
This is the rate of emergency hospital admissions caused by unintentional and deliberate injuries to children and young people aged 0-17, expressed as a rate per 100,000 children aged 0-17.

Injuries are a leading cause of hospitalisation and represent a major cause of premature mortality for children and young people. They are also a source of long term health issues, including mental health, related to experience(s). This indicator is key for informing cross-sectoral and partnership working to reduce injuries, including child safeguarding.

This is based on the total number of emergency admsisions for the 5 year period, divided by the total population for the five year period. All data is extracted at middle super output area (MSOA) level and aggregated to higher geographies as required. Patients may be counted more than once if they are admitted more than once during the period.
