- This is the number chain supermarkets per 10,000 people in the area. This includes all of following categories: Convenience, Discounters, Freezer centres, Petrol forecourt, Specialist, Symbol groups, Traditional, Travel, Wholesaler, and Other.
Data about chain supermarkets in the UK are from the Geolytix Supermarket Retail Points project August data. This data is complemented by stores from selected food retailers not in the Geolytix dataset. All major chain retailers are included, but most independent food retailers are excluded.
Per capita estimates are calculated using the usual resident population estimates from the most recent Census.
