- This is the number of museums in the area per 100,000 people. It includes both accredited and unaccredited museums.
Data about museums in the UK are from the Mapping Museums project produced by Birkbeck, University of London. For the purposes of this study, a museum is classed as closed when there are no regular opening days or hours.
Per capita estimates are calculated using the usual resident population estimates from the most recent Census.
