Resettlement is the transfer of refugees from the country in which they have sought refuge to another State that has agreed to admit them. The UNHCR identifies refugees registered with them and assesses their protection needs. Those determined by UNHCR to be in need of resettlement may be referred to the UK for consideration. Resettlement is provided as a durable solution when integration in the host country or a safe return to a person’s country of origin is not possible.

The Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme allows Ukrainian nationals and their family members to come to the UK if they have a named sponsor who can provide accommodation. The Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme allows Ukrainian nationals and their family members to come to the UK if they have a named sponsor who can provide accommodation. This is the number of visas issued to come to or stay in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland under the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme, collated for operational purposes by the Home Office and Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

The Sponsorship Scheme is for visa applications from Ukrainians who wish to travel to the UK and who have named people in the UK willing to sponsor them.

The Homes for Ukraine data have been assigned to local authorities or country based on the postcode of the sponsor’s address, or of the accommodation address if the applicant is not planning to stay at the sponsor’s address. The data shows the number of arrivals into the UK, but is not necessarily reflective of the persons having arrived at the location noted in the table. It is not wholly comparable with the Afghan and Asylum data, which measure stock population (the number of people in the LA on the last day of the quarter).

Some beneficiaries have indicated that either the Scottish Government or Welsh Government are their sponsor under the devolved government sponsor (also known as ‘supersponsor’) element of the scheme. This is where Welsh and Scottish governments have undertaken to match beneficiaries without a named sponsor at the point of application, to a suitable sponsor in due course. Consequently, beneficiaries under the 'supersponsor' schemes are not included in this data as they have no known location on their visa applications.
