- This is the number of dwellings, of any size, owned within the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) that are vacant and temporarily unavailable for letting, any length of time.
This covers vacant dwellings in the local authority stock at 31 March at the end of the reporting period, whether they are located within the local authority area or not.
Vacant dwellings that are not available for letting includes: Stock that has been previously let, but which requires works before a new tenant can move in (which are more substantive than normal maintenance and redecoration works). This includes units where a contract for work has been let and works have not physically commenced and/or the property has not been handed over for letting or re-letting; Stock awaiting sale, provided they were not originally developed for sale; Stock that is not available for letting due to unauthorised occupation or because it is awaiting demolition.
This indicator is from the Local Authority Housing Statistics data returns (LAHS) Section E - Vacants (This may be the same total as for item e2dd).
