- This is the total local authority collected waste in tonnes inputted to intermediate plants per 1,000 households. It refers to input to Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facilities, Residual Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF), Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) facilities and other plants prior to treatment and disposal.
Data is based on figures entered by local authorities onto WasteDataFlow for each quarterly return for the financial year. WasteDataFlow is a web-based system for quarterly reporting on local authority collected waste data by local authorities to central government. It was also used by the Environment Agency for monitoring biodegradable waste sent to landfill under the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme.
