This is the number of eligible people recorded on the Seasonal Payment System who received a Winter Fuel Payment and are of a State Pension age between 70 to 74 years.

Winter Fuel Payments were introduced in 1997 to help older people meet the costs of heating their homes in winter. They are paid in a lump sum each winter of between £100 and £300, depending on the recipient’s age and circumstances during the qualifying week (normally in September), and in most cases is paid automatically between November and December. Decisions are based on the location of the claimant during the qualifying week. These totals exclude those eligible claimants living in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, unknown locations, and those holding a British Forces PO address.

In November 2018, State Pension age was 65 for men and women. State Pension age is gradually increasing for men and women, and is expected to reach 67 by 2028.

Totals may not sum due to the disclosure control applied. Where there are negligible number of recipients these will be displayed as zero.
