- This is the number of CQC registered adult social care community based locations that are currently active at the 1st of the month, and have a rating of outstanding for the question 'Are they well-led?' There are four ratings that CQC give to health and social care services: outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate. Ratings are given for the service overall, and also for each of the five key questions: are services safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
Are they safe? People supported by the services are protected from abuse and avoidable harm.
Are they effective? People's care, treatment and support achieves good outcomes, helps them to maintain quality of life and is based on the best available evidence.
Are they caring? Staff involve and treat the people they care for with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
Are they responsive to people's needs? Services are organised so that they meet the needs of people supported.
Are they well-led? The leadership, management and governance of the organisation make sure it's providing high-quality care that's based around individual needs, that it encourages learning and innovation, and that it promotes an open and fair culture.
By law, care providers have to display the ratings given in the places where they provide care, somewhere that people who use their services can easily see them. They must also show their ratings on their website, if they have one.
