Approximate proportion of people entitled to Disability Living Allowance (%) (17042) Metric type
- Help text
- Proportion of people of all ages entitled to Disability Living Allowance (DLA) as a percentage of the total resident population in the area. This figure is calculated using the mid-year ONS local population figures as an approximation for the population. While DLA is typically given to people aged under 65, people can continue to receive the allowance after reaching age 65 if they continue to satisfy the entitlement conditions. Totals for DLA all entitled cases show both the number of people in receipt of an allowance and those with entitlement where the payment has been suspended, for example if they are in hospital.
DLA has two components which can be paid together or on their own; a care component and a mobility component. DLA can be awarded for a fixed or an indefinite period.
