Did you know we have a dedicated powers and duties tool?
Available to LG Inform Plus subscribers, it provides information on what current legislation gives English and Welsh councils the power to do and what it requires them to do in law. Advanced searching and filtering options make it easy to find specific powers and duties based on legislation, business function and keyword, and results are easily exported in commonly used formats.

Proportion of 16 and 17 year olds in apprenticeships (15723) Metric type
- Help text
- This is the number of 16 and 17 year olds who are in apprenticeships expressed as a proportion of the number of 16 and 17 year olds known to the local authority (i.e. those who were educated in government-funded schools). The proportion of full time employees who are undertaking an apprenticeship that has been commissioned and delivered through the National Apprenticeship Service. Young adult offenders in custody are excluded from the denominator used to calculate participation, NEET and not known rates.
The age of the learner is measured at the beginning of the academic year, 31 August.
This includes young people educated in other authority areas, students living away during term time. Young people who were not educated in the maintained sector will only be included if they are known to the LA. Since April 2018, the NCCIS management information requirement stated that LAs should record the activity of refugee/asylum seekers in the same way as the rest of the cohort.
