This is the total number of furloughed employments under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) was announced by the Government on 20 March 2020 in order to support employers who have been unable to undertake their normal activities through the COVID-19 period. Under CJRS, employers are able to claim support from the period starting 1 March 2020, where employees have already been furloughed from that date. The scheme provides employers with grants up to 80% of salary, up to a maximum of £2,500 per month per employee, plus the associated Employer National Insurance contributions and pension contributions (up to the level of the minimum automatic enrolment employer pension contribution) on that subsidised furlough pay.

For an employer to qualify for the scheme they need have created a PAYE scheme by 19 March 2020. The scheme closed to new entrants on 30 June 2020. From this point onwards, employers were only able to furlough employees that they have furloughed for a full 3-week period prior to 30 June 2020.

The CJRS scheme was extended from 1 November 2020. The two key rules are that the furloughed employee must have been employed on 30 October 2020 and the employer must have submitted a Real Time Information (RTI) submission to HMRC for the employee between 20 March 2020 and 30 October 2020, notifying a payment of earnings for that employee.

Geographic breakdowns of CJRS claims are based on an employee's last known address to HMRC. Geographic breakdowns do not directly translate to the employee's usual place of work, or where their employer has a base of operations

Counts have been rounded to the nearest 100. Components may not sum to the total because of rounding.
