- This metric is derived by the LGA (Local Government Association) from the CQC (Care Quality Commission's) Care Directory file, the file contains a complete list of the places in England where care is regulated by CQC. Using the National Statistics Postcode Lookup, we have counted the number of long-term condition services located in an area and then created a crude rate per 1,000 resident population. These services provide a range of highly specialised care, treatment and support to people with physical or neurological illnesses, cognitive impairments or injuries that are unlikely to improve. These conditions may have been inherited or acquired, and may not necessarily be life-limiting. This care, treatment and support is the sole or main purpose of the service.
People may be cared for by these services for many years at a time, and will be 'admitted' and stay at the facility over time. People using these services require the support of medical practitioners and a range of other healthcare professionals, and their care, treatment and support may involve highly technical interventions such as ventilation.
Data are extracted once a quarter and provide a snapshot in time. It should be noted that due to changes to postcodes a small proportion cannot be matched to the latest National Statistics Postcode Lookup file and are therefore excluded from these figures.
