All private landlords are required to be registered with their local authority.The scheme covers all private lettings,with certain limited exemptions. The landlord is required to provide personal details, a list of all let properties and also the name and address of any letting agent used. Letting agents are not obliged to register separately but are encouraged to do so. Each application will be assessed to ensure the applicant is a fit and proper person. Properties do not require to be inspected by the council.
