Children subject to section 47 enquiries which started in the year (number) (8915) Metric type
- Help text
- This is the number of children who were subject to section 47 enquiries which started within the year.
At an initial assessment the local authority should determine if there is reasonable cause to suspect the child is suffering, or is likely to suffer significant harm (section 47 of the Children Act 1989). If this is suspected then the local authority should carry out a section 47 enquiry to determine if it needs to take steps to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child. If concerns are substantiated and the child is judged to be at continuing risk of harm then an initial child protection conference will be convened. At the initial child protection conference, the decision will be made as to whether the child needs to become the subject of a child protection plan. Taken from Characteristics of Children in need, table C4.
