DISONTINUED as this is a duplicate of metric 12110 from Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF) where further HPV indicators are also available. This metric represents all girls aged 12 to 13 years who have received one dose of the HPV vaccine, as a percentage of all girls aged 12 to 13 years. In the UK, all 12-13 year old girls (school year 8) are offered HPV vaccination through the national HPV immunisation programme. The HPV vaccine protects against the two high-risk HPV types 16 and 18 that cause over 70% of cervical cancers. Vaccination coverage is the best indicator of the level of protection a population will have against vaccine preventable communicable diseases. Coverage is closely correlated with levels of disease. Monitoring coverage identifies possible drops in immunity before levels of disease rise.
