The figure reported is a snapshot as at August each year and is based on Administrative data sources on benefits and tax credits from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Her Majesty?s Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
This measure provides a broad proxy for relative low-income child poverty it can be used to explore variations in low income across the UK, however, it should not be used to obtain a definitive measure of children in low income in any given area. The definitive measure of the number of children in low-income families at national level, used for targets in the Child Poverty Act 2010, is contained in the DWP Households Below Average Income (HBAI) publication report.
All data are rounded to the nearest 5 units, so aggregating the individual estimates may not sum to the given totals for an area.
