CO2 emissions estimates - Transport per capita (52) Metric type
- Help text
- This is the estimate in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) emissions per head of population for the transport sector. Includes freight and passenger transport, both for private and business purposes. The estimates are made on the distribution of traffic, therefore some of the emissions within an authority represent through traffic, or part of trips into or out of the area, whether by residents or non-residents. As they are on an end-user basis, the transport emissions include a share of emissions from oil refineries.
Carbon dioxide is reported in terms of net emissions, which means total emissions minus total removals of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by carbon sinks. Carbon sinks are any process, activity or mechanism which removes a greenhouse gas, an aerosol or a precursor of a greenhouse gas from the atmosphere.
The data show emissions allocated on an "end-user" basis where emissions related to energy use are distributed according to the point of energy consumption. Emissions that are not energy related are distributed based on the point of emission.
Except for the energy industry, emissions from the production of goods are assigned to where the production takes place. Therefore, emissions from the production of goods which are exported will be included, and emissions from the production of goods which are imported are excluded.
