Help text
This is the estimate in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) emissions per head of population for households. Domestic emissions represent emissions from energy consumption in and around the home, including emissions attributable to the use of electricity, but not activities by private individuals elsewhere, such as personal travel.

This sector can be influenced by the fuel types used, the type and condition of the housing (including its insulation), the average temperature (urban areas can be much warmer and therefore easier to heat than rural areas), average household size, type of household and the income and preferences of the occupiers.br />
Carbon dioxide is reported in terms of net emissions, which means total emissions minus total removals of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by carbon sinks. Carbon sinks are any process, activity or mechanism which removes a greenhouse gas, an aerosol or a precursor of a greenhouse gas from the atmosphere.

The data show emissions allocated on an "end-user" basis where emissions related to energy use are distributed according to the point of energy consumption. Emissions that are not energy related are distributed based on the point of emission.
