This is the percentage of pupils with statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan meeting the expected standard of phonic decoding. The phonics screening check is a statutory assessment for all pupils in year 1 (typically aged 6) and all state-funded schools with a year 1 cohort must administer the check. Those pupils who did not meet the standard in year 1 or who were not tested, must be re-checked at the end of year 2 (typically aged 7).

Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans were introduced from September 2014 as part of a range of SEND reforms. A pupil has a statement of SEN or an EHC plan when a local authority issues one following a formal assessment. This document sets out the child's needs and the extra help they should receive.

Regional totals have been rounded to the nearest 10. There may be discrepancies between the sum of constituent items and totals.
