Percentage of pupils with SEN Support meeting the expected standard of phonic screening check in year 1 (4667) Metric type
- Help text
- This is the percentage of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support meeting the expected standard of phonic decoding. The phonics screening check is a statutory assessment for all pupils in year 1 (typically aged 6) and all state-funded schools with a year 1 cohort must administer the check. Those pupils who did not meet the standard in year 1 or who were not tested, must be re-checked at the end of year 2 (typically aged 7).
From 2015 SEN support replaces school action and school action plus but some pupils remain with these provision types in first year of transition. SEN Support is when extra or different help is given from that provided as part of the school's usual curriculum. The class teacher and SEN Coordinator (SENCO) may receive advice or support from outside specialists.
Regional totals have been rounded to the nearest 10. There may be discrepancies between the sum of constituent items and totals.
