- This metric shows the median income received from employment income. Employment income includes all pay from employment, from taxable benefits and from unemployment benefit, income support or Jobseeker's Allowance. Median values are the mid-point of all incomes in an area and are a truer reflection of income in an area.The data is sourced from HRMC's Survey of Personal Incomes (SPI) which is a sample survey of individual liable to income tax. As with any sample survey estimates provided are subsject to sampling error, for areas with a population of 2.5 million or more the sampling error is low at +/- 1% rising to +/- 4% with populations of 200,000, therefore caution should be used when viewing data for small areas.
