Number of household reference persons with social grade C2 (3744) Metric type
- Help text
- This is the total number of 'Household Reference Persons' aged 16-64 classified as approximate social grade C2. The 'Household Reference Person (HRP)' is the closest equivalent in the Census to 'Chief Income Earner'. HRPs provide an individual person within a household to act as a reference point for producing further derived statistics and for characterising a whole household according to characteristics of the chosen reference person.
Social grade is the socio-economic classification used by the Market Research and Marketing Industries, most often in the analysis of spending habits and consumer attitudes. Although it is not possible to allocate Social Grade precisely from information collected from the Census, the Market Research Society has developed a method for using census information to provide a good approximation of social grade.
Approximate social grade allocate respondents to their most likely category based on the Standard Occupational Code 2010 code, Employment status, Qualification, Tenure and whether they work Full time, Part time or not working. Social garde C2 includes all HRPs allocated to skilled manual worker categories.
