Number of GP Surgeries in an area (3710) Metric type
- Help text
- This indicator is a count of GP Surgeries in a local authority. It was derived by the LGA to give a sense of health service provision in each authority and was sourced from the National General Practice Profiles Practice Inclusion list by Public Health England (http://tinyurl.com/odfeocw). This list provides address details of GP surgeries in England. Postcodes were matched to a local authority using the ONS National Statistics Postcode Lookup (NSPL) (https://geoportal.statistics.gov.uk), providing an estimate of the number of surgeries within each local authority.
Criteria for inclusion on the National General Practice Profiles Practice Inclusion list (Public Health England) are: The practice is listed in the Quality and Outcomes Framework.; the practice is listed in ADS (Attribution Data Set GP-Registered Populations, HSCIC); the practice list size is > 900 patients. These revised (2014) criteria mean that very few practices have been excluded.
