Ratio of pharmacies per 10,000 population (3707) Metric type
- Help text
- This indicator is a crude rate of pharmacies per 10,000 population in a local authority. It was derived by the LGA to give a sense of health service provision in each authority and was sourced from the Health and Social Care Information Centre's Organisation Data Service publication GPs, GP Practices, Nurses and Pharmacies (http://tinyurl.com/m3go89k). This list provides address details of all pharmacies in England and Postcodes were matched to a local authority using the ONS National Statistics Postcode Lookup (NSPL) (https://geoportal.statistics.gov.uk), providing an estimate of the number of pharmacies within each local authority. To calculate the crude ratio of pharmacies in each authority per 10,000 population, the number of pharmacies in each authority was multiplied by 10,000 and then divided by the ONS population count for the authority.
