Discontinued, latest available data 2013/14.

This metric is the percentage of children in the area residing in areas other than the 30% most disadvantaged Super Output areas (based on the Index of Multiple Deprivation) achieving an 'expected' or 'exceeded' level in each of the early learning goals (ELGs) within the Literacy area of the assessment.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) is a teacher assessment of children’s development at the end of the EYFS (the end of the academic year in which the child turns five). The new profile introduced in 2012/13 assess children in 7 areas of learning covering 17 early learning goals (ELGs).

Literacy is one of the 4 specific areas of learning and covers the ELGs: Reading and Writing.

All English providers of funded early years education in the maintained (including academies), private, voluntary and independent (PVI) sectors are within the scope of the EYFSP data collection. Please note that those children not in receipt of government funding at the end of the EYFS are not within the scope of the EYFSP data collection.

Only children with a valid result for every ELG are included in this metric and national and regional totals are based on every child within the defined area not the average aggregate data.

The percentage of children in each Local Authority who reside in areas other than the 30% most disadvantaged Super Output areas in England based on the 2010 Index of Multiple Deprivation. Please note that the number of children in the deprived areas will vary considerably between Local Authorities and where no data shows it is 'not applicable' as there are no children identified within the Local Authorities as residing in the 30% most disadvantaged Super Output areas in England.
