Help text
This metric is a crude rate of total receipts of council taxes collected in the year to date (irrespective of the financial year they relate to) expressed as a percentage of the estimated total council tax due for the year.

This figure is expressed as a cumulative figure i.e. quarter 1 will cover the three months April-June, quarter 2 will cover the six months April-September, etc. As the metric uses the amount of council tax collected in a given quarter irrespective of the financial year they relate to it is possible for the rate to exceed 100 percent due to additional payments being received either from previous or future years.

The Department for Communities and Local Government also produce 'Collections rates for Council Tax and non-domestic rates in England'. Users who need an early indication of collection rates are advised to use this measure, those who require a long-running, consistent time series may find the 'Collections rates for Council Tax and non-domestic rates in England' series more appropriate.
