Number of fast food outlets per 100,000 (crude rate) (3358) Metric type
- Help text
- This indicator is a crude rate of fast food outlets per 100,000 population in a local authority and was sourced from Ordnance Survey InterestMap™ May 2013 by Public Health England. Ordnance Survey InterestMap™ provides location details of businesses, leisure sites and geographic features in Great Britain. For each business, premise name, address and postcode are provided alongside mapping location and premise category. The three sub groups that have been combined to produce this indicator are: (i) Fast food and takeaway outlets, (ii) Fast food delivery services, and (iii) Fish and chip shops. The data on the location of fast food outlets include premise postcode. By using the NHS postcode file, this postcode was matched to a local authority. It was then possible to count the number of fast food outlets within each local authority.
ONS mid-year population estimates are used to establish the rate of fast food outlets.
