DISCONTINUED DATA - Final available dataset:sch_2011_12. This is the percentage of pupils in state funded primary schools with Special Educational Needs (SEN) at School Action, achieving level 4 or above including English & mathematics at Key Stage 2. This is based on pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 in the academic year reported, in all state funded primary schools. The description ‘state-funded primary schools’ refers to those schools maintained by the local authority, including middle schools deemed as primary and academies.

In 2012, English was calculated from reading test results and writing teacher assessment rather than from reading and writing tests as in previous years. Whilst year on year comparisons can still be useful, data for 2012 cannot be directly compared with earlier years.

Pupils have Special Educational Needs if they have learning difficulties that need special educational provision. They have learning difficulties if they find it much harder to learn than most pupils of the same age or they have disabilities that make it much more difficult for them in school. School Action is when a class or subject teacher identifies that a pupil has special educational needs and gives help that is extra to or different from that provided as part of the schools usual differentiated curriculum.
