- DISCONTINUED LAST PUBLISHED DATA 2013/14 (academic) This is the percentage of pupils in state funded secondary schools with Special Educational Needs (SEN) at School Action, achieving 5 or more A* to C GCSEs (incl. English & mathematics). This is based on pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 in the academic year reported, in all state funded secondary schools, which includes academies and city technology colleges.
Pupils have Special Educational Needs if they have learning difficulties that need special educational provision. They have learning difficulties if they find it much harder to learn than most pupils of the same age or they have disabilities that make it much more difficult for them in school. School Action is when a class or subject teacher identifies that a pupil has special educational needs and gives help that is extra to or different from that provided as part of the school's usual differentiated curriculum.
PRE 2013/14 DATA IS NOT COMPARABLE DUE TO CHANGES TO THE PRODUCTION OF THESE STATISTICS FOR THIS PERIOD
Two major reforms have been implemented which affect the calculation of Key Stage 4 (KS4) performance measures data: 1. Professor Alison Wolf's Review of Vocational Education recommendations which: restrict the qualifications counted; prevent any qualification from counting as larger than one GCSE; and cap the number of non-GCSEs included in performance measures at two per pupil. 2. An early entry policy to only count a pupil's first attempt at a qualification. Comparisons between 2013/14 and earlier years should not be made before reading sections 2 and 3 of the statistical first release:
