Help text
This is the proportion of people aged 65 and over entitled to Carer's Allowance living in the area. It refers to the age of the carer and not the care recipient.

It is paid to carers who look after a severely disabled person for at least 35 hours a week. The severely disabled person must be getting either higher or middle rate Disability Living Allowance (DLA) care component, Attendance Allowance or maximum rate Constant Attendance Allowance with their War Pension or Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.

To claim Carer's Allowance the customer has to be aged 16 or over. You do not have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for. You do not get paid extra if you care for more than one person. If someone else also cares for the same person as you, only one of you can claim Carer's Allowance. The amount paid is normally increased annually each April.

Figures reflecting the count as of the end of each financial quarter. For this collection Q4 ends in February.
